I've listened to this one!
As a teenager in the 1990's I remember thinking this was something new. Songs off of it were popping up in places like MTV and later on some video games. Tony Hawk I think? Definitely heard a song on the 120 Minutes Live compilation album. Maybe some were on some movies or shows?
I was totally shocked to learn many years later that it was from 1983.
It always kind of amazed me how there's no kick drum. My brain just kind of fills in the gaps and imagines that it's there. Or maybe it's more that it's that the rhythm section fills that space so well I don't even notice the lack of a bigger kit. Impressive!
Amazing album. I haven't listened to this album in years, but this time around the fantastic performance on bass really stood out for me. The vocal sizzle and fry on some of the edgier parts really sounded fantastic too. That stood out for me more than I remember. The tonal character of the vocals are just right. Love it!

I always thought that 'Bang a Gong' song was by someone else. This album is great, start to finish. What an album cover too. I wonder how many people were inspired to buy a full stack amplifier from that image. It's making me want one right now! The music did not match what I expected based on that image, but I think the context of the album cover might have something to do with the band ditching their folk origins for a more electrified sound.
There's parts of this album that feel so ahead of its time. I would not have guessed 1971. Even the lyrics feel

The Wildest!
Louis Prima
This is ridiculous. It's so good. How is this so good?
I often complain about remasters, but this is a case where I may have heard scratchy old versions of some of these songs in movies or games, or even on television. But these sound incredible! Also, this is 1956, I wonder what the microphone situation was? Just some mid-side setup? A single omni?
On "Oh, Marie" at about 0:35 it sounds like Louis calls the sax player over to get to the closer to the microphone for his call and response part. Then he backs up for his solo. Amazing.

...And Justice For All
Metallica
I'm quite familiar with this album!
I fondly remember how this sounds being played on a cassette boombox while trying to do dumb things on a skateboard.
I'm usually not too keen on remasters by the artists or otherwise. I think of albums as a snapshot. Want record the songs again and rerelease them else where? Love it. But don't mess with the original!
Anyways, there's a remaster called "...And Justice for Jason" and it's a great listen for anyone who wonders where the bass guitar went in this recording.

There are so many cool impressive little things going on in this album. Unfortunately it didn't grab me. But I'll admit, I was continually impressed while waiting and waiting to make my own great escape. I'll probably listen again and end up liking it more. There are individual moments I really like, especially on the track Faron Young. I felt like I was being led into one musical trope, buy they would weave it beautifully into another, and yet another, over and over. Pretty cool. Lots of what seemed like unexpected and complex chord progressions too.
I love it when music gives me hints to go listen to other music. Be it the lyrics, liner notes, a sample, a riff, whatever. I like the invitation to explore something I didn't know about. I did not know of Faron Young and will certainly be checking out the song "It's Four in the Morning".
I gave it another spin and I definitely enjoyed it more the second time around. What a great sounding record. I'd love to listen to the non-remastered version sometime. I usually don't like remastered copies. Also, the deluxe version or whatever it's called on goes straight into disc two on streaming services. That's not the end of the word, but the album ending on the fade out of "When The Angels" is a nice place to end it.
That Faron Young song was pretty good too.

I really enjoy world music that doesn't sound or feel cheesy. Sometimes it's hard to find. This album really delivered. I'm impressed, and would totally listen again.
