1001 Albums Summary

Wasn’t sure what to expect after first listen of “Badlands”…initially, Springsteen’s voice didn’t sound like they matched the instrumentals. Listened a second time, while paying close attention to the lyrics, and I couldn’t help but feel like I’d heard a truly great song. “Adam Raised Cain,” “Something in the Night”, “Racing in the Street”—his voice and the subject matter feel familiar despite the fact I couldn’t be more different than him. Listening to this album makes me feel nostalgic and youthful (not naive youthful, rather a learned/wise youthful).

The folk/pop blend is unique. Good instrumentation and vocals. Was difficult to distinguish one song from the next and no one song stood out. Was difficult to listen to the entire album.

Blast of nostalgia! Didn’t realize how many great songs were on this album

Certainly a classic and maybe I’m getting old, but some of the lyrics just don’t do it for me.

This was another tough album to get through. I liked the song “Who’s Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses” and “One” was familiar in a good one. Nothing remarkable about the album though and couldn’t finish.

Rating this album based mostly on the beats and the flow, honestly.

My first time listening to them and it was enjoyable! Unique sound…playful, artsy.

I really enjoyed this album! Particularly enjoyed the instrumental songs toward the end “Sense of Doubt”, “Moss Garden,” and “Neukoln.” Other notable songs for me were “Blackout” and “The Songs of Arabia.” Only reason I take a star away is because, while I could easily listen to the whole album again, there’s nothing about it that would make me REACH for it.

This is tough to rate—classic songs, but repetitive beats and lyrics make it difficult for me to enjoy listening to the album from start to finish. I’d rate some of the individual songs highly (between 3 and 4), but I just can’t bring myself to rate the album as a whole higher than like a 2.5.

An easy album to listen to, which I appreciate. Unfortunately, no one song stood out for me. I enjoyed the composition (blending of styles, doo-woo, pop, rock, etc) and simplicity and youthfulness of the lyrics. I wish I could rate this a 2.85 cause I enjoyed listening to it more than some other albums on this list.

The guitar/instrumentals on “Babe I’m Gonna Leave You” had me mesmerized! Another London based band that borrowed heavily from American/black folk and blues music, but in comparison to Rolling Stones, this album really did the genres justice.

I went in not knowing what to expect and, honestly, not wanting to like any songs. I was genuinely surprised with how enjoyable I found the songs. Nothing spectacular or mind blowing, but the album was easy to listen to. Really enjoyed the first and final track, “Band on the Run” and “Nineteen Hundred and Eighty Five.”
