1001 Albums Summary

It was the nineties- as the song says. Chill 90s rap, a bit hypnotic. Not my usual jam but a nice change of pace.

"Bad" is yet another song in the series of "Songs I'm incapable of hearing as anything other than Weird Al's lyrics." "Man in the Mirror" is... insipid, uninspired, and knowing what we know now about Michael Jackson, just a little weird. Overall - I'm trying to give this a fair shot but it's hard to escape the context. Ultimately, it's everything I don't like about 80s music with very little of the good bits. I won't say there aren't some high points (Smooth Criminal, bits of Dirty Diana) but I don't think I'll be revisiting it.

Levon makes a lot of money... selling cartoon balloons in town? Wow, what a boomer concept. ...or is it supposed to be commentary on public perceptions? Are the balloons a side hustle? I am definitely overthinking this. I'm not a huge fan of Tiny Dancer or Levon, but once you get into the b-sides it's decent (albeit with some Big Yikes From The 70s in "Indian Sunset"). I like the musical style though if I'm being overly cynical it's a bit overdramatic. Should probably expect the Drama from Sir Elton though. The title track is a highlight.

It’s good to check in on your preferences once in a while in case your tastes change, sometimes you’ll find you love something you didn’t before, or at least you appreciate it more! In this case, I’m here to report that I still hate jazz.

Finally, an album that's actually kind of my vibe. Probably not going in the regular album rotation - I don't know that I found any song to be a standout - but overall a good proto-grunge post-metal time.
