Listening statistics & highlights
(3.5) Solid album overall. Wasn’t really super blown away by the songwriting but I do enjoy some singer/songwriter folk material. There weren’t any tracks in particular that really caught me on a first listen, but I enjoyed the album overall and will likely revisit in the future.
(3.5) I’m not a huge R&B guy, but I did enjoy this one a lot more than I was expecting. I thought the production on this album was really solid and I liked the sci-fi concept. I think the highlight of the album for me personally was “Tightrope,” which featured Big Boi. There weren’t really any tracks that I disliked and overall this was a solid album. I could see myself rating this higher after revisiting in the future.
(4) Classic soul/funk album. Really enjoyed this one. Will definitely be listening to more by War.
(3.5) Really big fan of Simon & Garfunkel. I remember watching The Graduate in high school when I was really getting into them and some of the tracks from this album were on that soundtrack. Solid album overall. Can’t remember if I listened to this one all the way through before, but both the title track and “Homeward Bound” are in my everyday listening playlist. Haven’t listened to “For Emily, Whenever I May Find Her” in a while. Really like that one. Now I wanna go back and listen to the S&G records I have.
(3) I like what this album was going for conceptually more than I like the execution. I think the synthesis of trip-hop, jazz piano, and Indian music is really interesting at times, and overall the production is very polished, but I found some of the songs to be hit or miss. Last track went hard, though.
(2.5) On the fence about this one. I could see myself revisiting this and connecting with it a lot more in a couple years maybe, but just on this first listen, I was not super impressed. I feel like what this album is going for has just been done better, especially with this being recorded a few years after OK Computer was released. Not terrible, but felt kindof tedious. By the time I got to the last couple tracks, I was ready for the album to be over.
(3.5) Pretty decent prog album. I think I prefer Emerson, Lake & Palmer’s self-titled debut, but I enjoy Tarkus. Not sure if I would really consider this a “must-listen” album. I remember I used to listen to the title track a lot in high school. The rest of the songs are kinda forgettable. Bitches Crystal is the only other one I really remember listening to just because of the title. I think out of Emerson, Lake & Palmer’s discography, Brain Salad Surgery or their debut album would’ve made more sense to include, as these were more influential and better represent some of the more experimental progressive rock stuff out there, but Tarkus is solid overall.
