I’m not a blues expert, so it’s hard for my to judge what’s exceptional in the blues world. BB King’s voice is entrancing, but this seems more like a “you had to be there/then” to get it.
Maximalism and virtuosity, the songwriting of glam rock with the flair of funk, you could almost forget that this band has one of the greatest singers in popular music. They seem to be having endless fun on this record, and it’s infectious. May overdoes it slightly with the stereo delay, but otherwise the band’s sound is tuned to perfection.
More uneven than I remember, but still a great songwriting showcase. Hard not to compare to the rest of The Beatles’ output, so this misses five stars by missing the highs of other (presumably on this list) great albums.
