Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots
The Flaming Lips
Really interesting album. I can't quite tell if there is one consistent story on first listen, but it certainly seems that way, and the inclusion of Pink Robots pt1&2 seems to hint at it being one thing.
As for sounds, I was never bored throughout the album, all the songs kept me entranced. The genre is interesting and brings me back to a few older bands like Sky or Jean-Michel Jarre

Stories From The City, Stories From The Sea
PJ Harvey
This album will probably need a few more listens to get a full opinion. So far, I really like the overall vibe. It feels grungy, but also not grungy. The lyrics are sang beautifully and have great meaning. I'd never heard of P J Harvey, but after looking her up the first article is about Dave Grohl asking her to front Nirvana at some point, and I can see why he'd want her.

Strangeways, Here We Come
The Smiths
I've heart good things about The Smiths in the past, but never listened to their music. After hearing them, I can say that they are pretty decent easy listening music. Love anything from the 80s. Although maybe I'm missing something but overall they are just "Ok" in my opinion.

I really just didn't vibe with this one at all. I can tell it does have emotion in it, just not for me.

James Brown Live At The Apollo
James Brown
James Brown had a great voice, my problem with this kind of music is it all sounds really similar, besides a few changes like speed.

Tres Hombres
ZZ Top
There's no denying the influence ZZ Top had on Southern Rock and Rock in general. I find myself more partial to the 80s Albums, although everyone has heard "La Grange" from this album. Listening to the full thing, I've noticed there are some strong religious undertones to this entire album, which I'm not particularly fond of, but it's understandable considering they are "Southern Rock". I can certainly say if I'm in a Southern Rock mood this album and ZZ top are right up with the other greats such as Lynyrd Skynyrd

Like A Prayer
Madonna
This album actually really pleasantly surprised me. Everyone has heard the popular Madonna songs like "Like a Prayer", and even slightly lesser known hits like "Express Yourself" and "Cherish". Although these songs do have meaning, it's undeniable these are made to the typical "Pop" formula of a catchy melody and chorus. But underneath these there were actually some thoughtful songs. Most notably
"Till Death Do Us Part" - This song has a upbeat catchy synth beat, which is contrasted heavily by the lyrics which is clearly about a failing relationship. Something about how she sings this sounds so truthful from her, and that's the kind of music I like.
"Oh Father" - This song is about a disciplinary/abusive father. It really does a good job of portraying the emotions a child would feel in this situation, but then even goes on to later show the older mature opinions of the situation where she sings "Maybe someday, when I look back I'll be able to say: You didn't mean to be cruel, Somebody hurt you too"
And finally "Pray for Spanish Eyes" which I've heard multiple times, but never paid notice to. This song is about losing a loved one, in this case a friend. On first interpretation, it seemed like they died in some kind of gang related incident, but after looking into the meaning, it's actually about the AIDs epidemic. Although, the nature of this song can really apply to any kind of tragic loss.
"How many lives will they have to take?
How much heartache?
How many suns will they have to burn?
Spanish eyes
When will they ever learn?"
Listening to this album has shown me that underneath the shallow pop sound of Madonna, there actually are some hidden gems, which was a pleasant surprise after being so critical going into it.

Every song sounded pretty similar, but I think that's the point. This is definitely a relaxing album, while also having a pretty emo feel to it
