extremely sick album, bio on the guy/ band is wild, 5 for the impact historically and the fact that it fucks severely, unfortunately i do not have the constitution to handle 7 min instrumental jam sesh before they then go to lyrics so personal 4.5. made me less annoyed about bands/ groups that r 10 million fucking artists
fun album, not 100% 4 me, underwater rimes rules. i get it but when i see random fatphobic shit i mentally clock out lol. the way they sampled sly and the family stone and then their song got sampled by like nwa and [other group i forgot] makes me so insane to remember ppl who r like still alive or could be in the entangled web. it kinda repeats a lot. packet man was p fun i think idk my memorys bad :c 4 cause it seems important or w/e 3 in my mind bc its just kinda eh to me maybe more context would change that but im bad at searching!
i should look up more about them but i got distracted. its fine. kinda keeps the beat relatively steady but i was also helping a friend while listening so. i just dont care to relisten rn. i did like the first song and sometimes the basslines like still fun. did not like heat miser lol
uhh idk shit about soundsystems or operation ore or anti war crackdowns in the uk so. w/o that context its liiiike a 3.5 for me
\"But I patterned my look after the town tramp.\" <- sickest possible quote
i did not fucking know she'd been making music for this long jesus christ. is that a steel guitar. this should like, play on the new vegas radio actually but maybe they didnt wanna get the rights. or maybe they hate women idfk. idk i feel similarly to how i do about a lot of country artists. its perfectly good, happy 4 u, sure u went thru it for many reasons but i am not gonna listen to this a lot. 3.5 to me personally, maybe if i had listened to her other shit or like read more interviews id have more thoughts. i keep trying to relisten bc i feel like i ll enjoy it more if i know the lyrics and really pay attention to the vocal and instrumental performance and i just cannot pay attention to it to reevaluate. im sorry. i do think the lyrics r fun. most of the time oh fuck organ in this song hell yea
ok new theory: being high correctly stimulates my brain and i am able to actually enjoy things like this but normally it just is not attacking me enough for me to have fun
i usually try and look up extra context for every album bc i want a more rounded way to engage with it and because often something just isn't that interesting to me, but is more interesting when i know what it does and whats special about it. not really the case with elvis costello. ppl say the lyrics r good and like it's good pop lyrics but also like. what the fuck is he talking about
extremely not for me unforch
i wish i hadnt heard this album. this album does indeed make me go do you have the fucking maturity of a 5 yr old. they seem kinda misogynist. i cannot BELIEVE the last song on the album is that. idk maybe im just a bitch who doesnt have fun but like bro.
uhhh anything good at all the last notes of wednesday week (yes ik its generally in the song) and the opening of tearproof. uhh the bit at like 1:54 of 9/10 (and by extension the bit immediately before). opening of girls that don't talk ig. this makes me think that if they had a darker sound and were less fucking annoying i could enjoy it. i think i dont like some of the things they do musically which unfortunately means i should relisten and pull up the stupid fucking sheet music+/ tabs to jot down what they are so special fuck u to the undertones for making me do that
2 bc im sure its crafted perfectly well i just hate it
yea idk its like cool. least ive been annoyed w singer songwriter type shit maybe. hits more than i expected for me. cool she pushed for the piano instead of guitar on this i think it makes it more fun to me and works well w w/e the fuck she's doing on this album
I have no real way to explain this but it feels a bit like music a dad would listen to, and in this way it is not for me BUT I do like the different sounds they use.
I think its like, the solos, the repetition in the chorus is sometimes a bit much for me like it feels like it comes back like and takes like 3 mins of the song itself half the time, I think that's what makes it feel dad-like and that I'm not into per se
Uhh like 4.5 bc of that but still obviously this is cool for being what it is and I think the lead guitar and vocalist have been vocally pro-palestine which is sick
Leonard Peltier is still in prison also iirc
funk samba album theres literally no way i wasnt gonna think this fucks. also mei likes this album so its a little extra nice to get to listen <3
yea idk the musics mostly p fun imo but by highschool lover i was like please just do a tiny bit more in each song. but they were fun and good atmosphere ig i also had to look up the plot al;skdjf;skldfj
i would put a 3 but its just not for me AND theyre all. annoying to put it nicely. wild level of animal abuse in here out of fucking nowhere. ozzy osbourne go to hell and stay there
Indie always holds one of two specific places to me and this album does its job fitting into the 'good music for dissociating to' category so I can never appreciate it fully. I can't tell whether I like it more or less when I pay attention because I don't actually like the sound of most indie music but I do appreciate like some of the sounds in there like in the end of I Am Trying to Break Your Heart or the string instrument in Jesus, Etc
had to stop reading about depeche mode bc it was making me insane. 3 bc its cool but the songs r sooo fucking long and arent attacking me enough for me to enjoy it casually
this is indeed show tunes
Honestly trying to find any info on common is funny as hell because it's like, it's always cool when artists play in prisons and then try and do something related to that, and the like link to Fela Kuti whose album was also on here previously is really neat to see, but then it's like and then he did a clothing line with Microsoft, like what the fuck are you talking about lmao (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tPtG8Xb_Dqs if you wanna see some). Anyways the album is like a normal amount of fun to me, some of the lyrics are hella funny to me like the section around the line "What if God was a Her?" or fuckin "Ooh baby she liked it raw / Like rain when she came it poured" ;LSKDJFD like sometimes the way he writes about women is just fucking funny I'm not even saying like oh it's fucked up or some shit but the fucking being a dad and being like and then I realized I'm gonna learn through her, change the world through her LMAO like come on. I feel like I've heard more /personally/ interesting (content-wise and musically) before but like it's cool
Album fucks imo. Also like, El Paso and A White Sport Coat are not his best songs and people have bad taste. Trying to write anything for this without having a strong grounding in country music feels like utter fucking nonsense. There's so fucking much about class and race going on in there and I cannot fucking tell where Marty Robbins places himself in all of it.
