1001 Albums Summary

Can’t really say I’m digging it. It’s hard for me to put my finger one what isn’t working for me. Definitely don’t like the guy’s voice. And doesn’t really seem like they are singing about anything. Like, thematically the songs are just kinda empty. Mr. Blue Sky is alright, but mostly because it reminds me of “Ziggy Stardust” which is a better song. “Sweet is the Night” is pretty good also. Interesting mostly as a precursor to the Flaming Lips, who I would say really built on and developed these ideas in a much more interesting and deeply felt direction.

How high do you need to be for this to sound good?! There were definitely tracks I could groove to, but then European Son was just like a double middle finger that made me want throw it right back at them. “Sounding good is for squares!”

Some Mother’s Son is a great song. The rest is OK.

Pretty good album. Love the layered vocals throughout. “In Zion” is a fantastic Christmas song. Did Missy Elilott ever get called out for cribbing “Lost Ones” so extensively in “Work It”. Last third/quarter of the album is pretty forgettable. Maybe would have been a stronger album if she’d cut the last three tracks.

It was fine. Autonomy is a banger.

Really really good.

Great title track. The B-side is instantly forgettable. Maybe it was special when I came out.
