1001 Albums Summary

It was OK. Some of it reminded me of Simon and garfunkle, but mostly more upbeat. I was surprised by some of the counter culture sentiment while I should already associate the sound this generation mostly sold out so the sound is ironically associated with a generation that figured it out then collectively lobotomized themselves

I thought it would be a fun listen with the classics, one of the best drummers who ever lived and a reputation for technical nerd music. But I was bored nearly the entire time. Maybe bc it's played out. The b sides while occasionally interesting were mostly anodyne and repetitive. I'm worried a lot of classic music will strike me this way bc even though they are beloved top tier musicians I still don't really like it.

It's aight. I enjoyed mutual slump and realized it was actually a maybe a bjork or portishead sample I was enjoying, but the nonstop wide open drum and cymbals kinda grated. overall really like some of it, particularly the down tempo bits and the conversational clip type samples were cool reminding me of the way sublime did similar.

I liked it. Holds up as modern sounding, I find some of the cliche background yo's and uhhuh's irritating but this album prob was in the pioneer phase before that became annoying. I like the funk and reggae attributes, and the education sketches. Also while I loathe religious indoctrination I find it endearing when themes and parables are wielded to communicate actual just and righteous values. That is a strong undertone in reggae and feels almost unique in hiphop/rnb vs some simp for tradition type invocation that are obvs hollow and immediately contradicted. I was surprised by the can't take my eyes off you cover and really enjoyed that. The title track underwhelmed and the really slow nothing even matters kind of sucked. But I don't want to be negative, I came away liking Lauryn hill a lot more instead of perceiving as a trendy cover artist hack which fugees killing me softly made me feel even tho it's also great.

I didn't enjoy this at all. I think this is what 80yrolds want to hear when they put something groovy on. It's very polished and professional, checks all the music qa boxes. But I don't like his voice or the harmonized voices, and it feels formulaic albiet technically very impressive. It gives me the boredom of slow jazz that gets wild with like 10 8th notes even though it's like sped up it doesn't quicken me. With a gun had sort of rockabilly vibe that almost worked for me except the vocals and lyrics were dumb and contrived. I may especially dislike this bc mom and step-dad played it in my early childhood and it played over a loveless violent household leading me to feel this is the music of deeply broken and dysfunctional people which I'm sure is not at all fair.

I tried and had to skip through. The classics are solid. But don't like having the ear worm. The super hype synth sound is cool but doesn't resonate with me. MJ still the fucking man though
