1001 Albums Summary

A fun listen with a good amount of groove and a lot of creativity. Hard to believe this was made in the 60s, but also at the same time makes so much sense. Makes me want to look into the cultural vibe of the UK in the 60's since so much of pop culture from that time that is discussed now is so American-focused. "Mother's Lament"? Such a funny way to end an album lmao

It was an interesting listen because I've head a couple random pixies songs over the years without really knowing what they're mainstay style was. Let's just say it's not exactly my cup of tea. Not lyricists but you don't have to be to make good music - it's just not my style.

Since Elvis is so ridiculously well known, it almost felt comedic to listen to this and try to separate it from his legacy. Not that you have to do that in order to fully appreciate the work but still. It's funny. But separate from that - as a dancer, I felt immediately that a good chunk of his music is so intimately tied with dance and the dance culture of the 50's. There were times that I couldn't help but tap my foot or shimmy a little. In the same vein with how people make fun of country music's lyricism for being "truck, beer, dirt road, hard work"-core, I could see the influences of what was popular topic-wise in the 50s as the majority of the album's tracklist were either these sweet, nearly hawaiian style love songs or sock-hop, spin your lover girl in a circle kinds of jams. Long story short, I enjoyed it at a base level solely for its historical value and danceability lol
