1001 Albums Summary

The first two tracks are classics and I love them. The third (Screaming for Nothing) is just that - screaming over a riff for no reason and it does nothing for me - I couldn’t even stick it out for the full song. After that, it’s fine. Know your enemy is background listening. Wake up is iconic. Fistful is pretty solid. Township fine. Freedom is meh tbh. When these guys go more towards the shouty stuff, they lose me.

Haven’t listened to this album in about 20 years. Surprised by how many of the rifs I now recognise from being sampled or otherwise ripped off by more contemporary artists - and this wasn’t a good thing because it showed how boring a lot of this album is (I’d rather be listening to the newer songs the album tracks remind me of, than the original). A few stand out tracks tho - Dirty Diana is a boo even if it is misogynist af, Leave Me Alone is excellent, and Smooth Criminal is classic MJ. Even Stevie Wonder can’t save the mid portion tho. Jeez.

A new one for me! I like the funky, 80s vibes at the start. Some cool talking in the middle. I like the use of whistles in first track, weirdly! This gets a bit dull and monotonous towards the end tho… strong start, weak finish. Maybe needs more than one listen. Will give the band some attention tho for sure: Couldn’t find the album anywhere except YouTube.

I mean, it’s Greenday so it’s my jam but it’s one of the worst Greenday albums so I guess that makes it average maybe? It’s a bit elevator music-ish in places but also each song has a little bop in it that means I can’t pick any stand out bad songs. It’s a confusing album cos I want to hate it and I can’t, and it’s boring except when it’s not.

Solid. Hadn’t realised I liked The Doors!

I love it! Super rocky, a bit like an angry Eve 6. Listened to non-stop for days.
