Hybrid Theory by Linkin Park
Apr 25 2024

Papercut - very edgy. Enjoy instrumentals, not rly the vocals (don't enjoy the rap vocals much) One step closer - Better than papercut. Enjoy the verse "I find the answers... I need a little room to breathe." Lyrics quite simple. Skip a few to Crawling - haha funny meme song. Rest of its pretty good, nice tension building in vocals. By Myself - a bit better than the rest In the End - another meme song. Unironically pretty good chorus. Cure for the Itch - I respect going more instrumental. Interesting build to the final track. Pushing me Away - Probably the best track. Instrumentals are somewhat enjoyable, and the vocals definitely are on the better side. Overall: not a huge fan of production and musical choices, though it has a few good moments.

The Next Day by David Bowie
Apr 26 2024

David Bowie's not someone who I normally listen to, so it's interesting to get involved in his discography. First impression: Not a huge fan of his voice. Still, I think that it works interestingly with the production. And the violins in Heat? Those are great. Lyrics feel like they flip flop between being bland and relatively interesting (if you can see me is cool lyrically). Overall, I'm not a fan of music from this era, but I find Bowie to have some simple but interesting music. Probably a solid 3+/5.

I'm genuinely surprised by my feelings about this album. Soul music is something I would not listen to, and it surprised me. First I'll give my one main critique: The songs are very repetitive. Obviously that's a stylistic choice, but I fail to be a huge fan of it. Despite that, the whole album has so much momentum to it. It's something that works for me to focus my attention on or to put in the background as something to enjoy the positive energy of. I am pleasantly surprised. 4.5/5 stars, so I'll round up.
