Heroes by David Bowie
Jul 05 2024

initial listen: must have fallen asleep halfway through the album but it’s not bad i think? if i had to pinpoint it to something i know, the vibe reminds me of don’t you (forget about me) but that might just be because they’re both older songs lol……. some of the first few songs are quite catchy esp heroes but the second half is mostly instrumentals?? 🧐🧐 interesting choice update: moss garden is pretty tho!! very space-like. overall the album is pretty cool, i’d listen to it again when i’m in the mood!

Brothers by The Black Keys
Jul 08 2024

i quite liked it actually! not much big standouts to me but i liked the album and the vibe of the songs overall ☺️ would give it a 3.5 if i could but alas…

oh it’s david bowie again! on first listen: five years omg. the crescendo! the strings!!!!! soul love is pretty groovy, somehow reminds me of the little mermaid’s kiss the girl 🫣 THAT OUTRO IN MOONAGE DAYDREAM. i really like the vibe of the album, groovy but also sentimental i think lady stardust may be one of my favourites from the album. some other faves as of right now are five years, ziggy stardust and rock ‘n’ roll suicide (i love that the last track ends on strings too 🥹🤭) overall i really like the album!! i think i’ll come to love it more over time, but for now i’ll rate it a 4 ☺️

This Year's Model by Elvis Costello & The Attractions
Jul 11 2024

maybe i’m just not in the mood for it but i thought the album was just okay? the first two tracks were not bad but it got a bit boring halfway in

Melodrama by Lorde
Jul 15 2024

i’ve had green light, the louvre and hard feelings/loveless in my playlists since probably two years ago but i’ve never actually listened to the album in full before! i’m excited because 2010s+ pop is def more in my comfort zone 🤭 first listen: okay homemade dynamite pop off!!! i like the vibe and the almost spacey synths (?). the piano in liability 🥹 was expecting it to crescendo into a climax but it’s still a nice song. the vocal layers in the chorus of writer in the dark pleasantly surprised me, the higher octave is so pretty! perfect places is a cute closer, the pop anthem style is def my taste and i like the synths before the outro overall the album is pretty cohesive and i can see the vision! unfortunately as of this moment, it’s not really hitting for me the way i thought it would 😭… though i see myself picking out specific tracks to listen to more so than replaying the entire album, i’m glad that it i at least got to listen to it once through.

my initial thought when i first saw this album pop up: dorothy? the wizard of oz?? kinda falling behind on time so i won’t be able to write my opinions on every track but. this album is actually so good??? most if not all of the tracks have something interesting to them / they’re just Good, catchy songs. the upbeat songs are so FUN and the slower ones sound like instant classics. the only thing is the album feels way too long 😭 i would give it a 4.5 if i could and i still need more time to digest the entire thing but alas. it only feels right to round the number up 🤭

Bryter Layter by Nick Drake
Jul 17 2024

omg just hearing the introduction track tells me i’m going to like this album. the instrumental is so lush and pretty 🥹 i love the guitar picking and THE VIOLINS (i'm a sucker for strings if you couldn’t tell…) the instrumentals of each song are enough to make me rate this album highly, but i was also pleasantly surprised by nick drake’s voice!!! i didn’t think i would like it much at first but it’s so soft and soothing, fitting with the calming vibe. there’s also a sentimental quality to the album which i love. if i close my eyes, i can almost imagine myself driving past grassy fields and hills under abundant sunshine.

Damaged by Black Flag
Jul 19 2024

i know i should have probably expected it from the cover but the shouting kinda caught me off guard at first LOL. also lowkey surprised by the short run time for each song, but in this case i don’t think it’s necessarily a bad thing. it’s not my usual taste in music but i actually don’t hate it? tv party is actually such a fun song 😋 i respect the album and it has its fun moments, but i don’t think i would go back to listen to it that often, which is why i’m giving it a 2… i would give it a 2.5 if i could though!
