Solid Album. 6.5/10. Liked Subterranean Homesick Blues (of course) as well as Bob Dylan's 115th Dream. The laugh is kinda hilarious

Hunky Dory by David Bowie
Jul 16 2024

Generally, a solid album. Changes, Oh! You Pretty Things, Life on Mars, are songs I've loved for quite a long time, and Andy Warhol was a surprise new song that I really enjoyed. Other songs, particularly in the middle portion, were of more middling quality, and the album did feel a little bloated as a result. And god, The Bewlay Brothers is so underrated. It's a brilliant song to end out the album. Bibbity-bobbity hat. Musicality: 7/10 Musicality: Well-executed with noticeable skill and talent. Lyricism: 7/10 Good lyrics that add depth and interest to the songs. Production Quality: 6/10 Good; well-mixed and clear. Artistic Expression: 8/10 Highly innovative and groundbreaking, with a powerful artistic voice. Cohesiveness and Flow: 5/10 Fairly cohesive, but not particularly memorable. Replay Value: 7/10 High; many tracks are enjoyable to revisit. Overall: 6.7/10 If Kooks, Quicksand, Fill Your Heart were removed and Eight Line Poem was shifted or removed entirely, the rating might range as high as 7.8-8.2/10.

The Velvet Underground & Nico by The Velvet Underground
Jul 17 2024

Great album. Not really my type of music, admittedly, but Venus in Furs I really did enjoy - a 9/10, definitely. Rocky start (not that the first two songs are bad, per se, but not to my liking.) but gets the ball rolling quickly afterwards. Musicality: 7.5/10 Musicality: Excellent execution with noticeable skill and talent. Lyricism: 8/10 Strong, thoughtful, and engaging lyrics Production Quality: 9/10 Near-perfect; flawlessly mixed and produced. Overall: 7/10

5/10. I'll not place a detailed rating here as this isn't really something I vibe with very much. Some snippets of tracks here and there catch my attention, but this certainly isn't my thing.

Mothership Connection by Parliament

Not my thing. Again, skimping the review - I'll only give it if I resonate with it enough. 4/10

Solid album. I love the sound of the album - including the rapping, which I include as an instrument rather than an element of the lyricism - but drags on in places, and does get a bit repetitive. Great introduction, and C.R.E.A.M is great, obviously Musicality: 8/10 Musicality: Excellent execution with numerous standout moments. Lyricism: 5/10 Not particularly lyrically meaningful - rapping falls in musicality. Production Quality: 8/10 Very high quality; exceptionally well-mixed and produced. Artistic Expression: 7/10 Creative and original, with clear artistic vision. Cohesiveness and Flow: 6/10 Generally cohesive, with some strong points. Replay Value: 6/10 Above average; several tracks are worth revisiting. Average: 6.7/10

Led Zeppelin IV by Led Zeppelin

Ok album. Not exactly a fan in any way. I acknowledge it's importance and it's impact, but I don't particularly like the music on this album in any way. Musicality: 9/10 Musicality: Excellent execution with numerous standout moments. The musicianship is great on this album. I really don't like Robert Plant's voice though. Lyricism: 6/10 Decent, with some interesting lines or themes. Production Quality: 6/10 Good; well-mixed and clear. Artistic Expression: 7/10 Creative and original, with clear artistic vision. Cohesiveness and Flow: 6/10 Generally cohesive, with some strong points. Replay Value: 5/10 Moderate; some tracks may be worth revisiting. Average: 6.5/10

Songs From The Big Chair by Tears For Fears
Jul 30 2024

Really well done - I must listen to it again at some point because I've been suffering poor connectivity issues where I'm at here. This really is a great example of what an album should be; there's such a distinct sonic texture to this album, and it feels cohesive and well done. There's a melancholic mystery and mystique to it, and yet, a palpable sense of wonder. I guess I could associate with deep, warm ocean shades of black and blue with fairy pink and white. I adore Listen. Everybody Wants to Rule The World and Shout is great too, and I love the jazzier songs like The Working Hour. Musicality: 9/10 Exceptional execution with masterful skill and artistry. Lyricism: 8/10 Strong, thoughtful, and engaging lyrics. Earnestly, Everybody Rules the World is the biggest contributor here - though the others aren't slackers. That's a 10/10. Production Quality: 9/10 Near-perfect; flawlessly mixed and produced. Artistic Expression: 9/10 Highly innovative and groundbreaking, with a powerful artistic voice. Cohesiveness and Flow: 7/10 Very cohesive, with a well-thought-out structure. Replay Value: 7/10 High; many tracks are enjoyable to revisit. Total: 8.2/10
