Urban Hymns by The Verve
Jul 26 2024

It was ok. Bittersweet symphony is a great song, and it wasn't bad music. Just sounded like Oasis without the hooks, energy, attitude, or Liam. Kinda meh outside of the first song - which also is kinda only good because the sample is amazing.

Different Class by Pulp
Jul 29 2024

This is a lot better than the last one. The songs are much more dynamic and the singer is doing a lot more. Very very british though. Getting a lot of bowie vibes. Ok song actually is basically a 60s/70s bowie cover album Common people rocks - sick power pop. Production is big on this album - great to listen to in a car Very flamboyant and like theatric vocals. Not really my thing but it's more interesting than the verve.

Let's Stay Together by Al Green
Jul 30 2024

It was good soul music, but didn't really connect with me. Probably won't listen to it again much.

Peter Gabriel 3 by Peter Gabriel
Jul 31 2024

Ok - it's very 80s and like industrial? It was - something? Sounded experimental and weird and at first I was not very interested. There were some good tunes and a lot of interesting moments on the album. Definately some prog rock moments, a lot of new wave, etc... What was most interesting what when I realized this came out in 1980. Same year as London Calling. This must have sounded absolutely weird as hell to people in 1980. The drum sounds, the gated reverb, the synths - I first assumed this was like late 80s. Clearly this was very influential in taking a lot of weird german music and infusing it with pop sensibilities, song structures, and lyrics. Like - all the elements that defined 80s and new wave are on this album - just presented in a weird but well executed way. So - it was cool - I probably won't listen to it again, and it wasn't breathtaking on a first listen, but it was good and succeeded at what it was trying to do - I think. Solid 3 stars for me, and cool to read about.

Juju by Siouxsie And The Banshees

solid - much more straightforward and enjoyable than the past few albums the bass has that 80s octave-y sound.
