1001 Albums Summary

I've been really into this era of music lately, so I appreciated the slower folk sounds of this album a lot!

I didn't end up completing this album because I got busy, but I have it bookmarked so I can listen to it later. I appreciate the significance behind it, but it is not quite my cup of tea all the same.

I haven't actively listened to Ray Charles unless it's Christmas stuff in a playlist. Though I recognize the significance on cultural history especially for a black man in the 1960s, thematically I was a bit tired of the same "Longing for a love who doesn't want me/ wants more than me" theme halfway into the album. maybe I'll appreciate it the more I listen to more things from the era.

I started high school in 2007 so these are some nostalgic sounds from that time, but I have always found MGMT to be overstimulating and thus never resonated with their music. Time to Pretend has 400m plays on Spotify and it sounds so boring to me, and the mixing is just so odd. The sound effects are so much louder than the spoken lyrics, which in the end is fine because the lyrics are so incredibly trite that it made me roll my eyes. Kids, on the other hand, feels moderately more profound in terms of the emotion its conveying and its mixing is much more balanced but oddly enough still doesn't resonate with me all that well. And I'm a person who loves themes of family and how you exist in the ever changing dynamics of them!

I find a lot of the sentiment of disillusionment from the early 00s is still very much relevant today. Even though Green Day isn't doing as strongly now, American Idiot still holds up enormously well 20 years later.

I was so bored listening to this I had to start skipping songs. Nothing annoys me more than instrumental music that repeats into oblivion with not enough to change it up between verses. Music tells a story sure, but this was a boring one at best. Grounds for Divorce had the most cohesion amongst them, but everything else was a snoozefest.

I don't like live albums that much; There's just something so overstimulating about the ambience in the mix that distracts from the listening of the song. However, there's a charm to Cash's performance at Folsom Prison...and you can never go wrong with that deep, buttery voice after all.
