1999 by Prince
Aug 15 2024

And so begins listing to the 1001 albums you must listen to before you die! So this is where the expression "party like it's 1999" comes from! Sure, you may love purple, but do you love it as much as Prince? That is quite the sexually charged album. Not really my thing, but the melodies sure are catchy anyway! Song Stuck in my head for the rest of the day: Let's Pretend We're Married

Live At The Regal by B.B. King
Aug 16 2024

Heck yeah, live blues time. Definitely more my style than yesterday's selection. When we got streaming music, we certainly gained more than we lost, but we lost the art of album order. This is one of those albums you absolutely cannot, should not listen to on shuffle willy nilly. Song Stuck in my head for the rest of the day: None. The whole album just kinda blends together to me, but that's fine.

OK Computer by Radiohead

Really liked it, would have liked it more if I understood more than a handful of the lyrics (granted, I have audio processing issues, so might just be me.)

Bayou Country by Creedence Clearwater Revival
Aug 18 2024

That is NOT the style I was expecting from the band name and opening song name, but I'm certainly not complaining. "Proud Mary" marks the first song in this adventure that I recognize from outside of it (this is Day 5 for me)! And it remains very catchy. I can't help but wonder how many of these albums I would have felt were more unique or revolutionary at the time they came out. Naturally, if you made this list, you've probably inspired a lot of people since.

Superfly by Curtis Mayfield

The use of Bongos in Pusherman really got me.

I can imagine this on a Guardians of the Galaxy OST which automatically means I like it.

Merriweather Post Pavilion by Animal Collective

If a man says this is his favorite album I'd suggest his date start stuffing breadsticks.

Aftermath by The Rolling Stones

why do some bands think cramming more poorly timed instruments in always makes for better music

Catchy but hard to get past the "hur dur foreign women better" racism opening.
