Harvest by Neil Young

1: Harmonicas, so many harmonicas Depression vibe, implies things but never says them. Speaks of escape and avoidance 2: slow/angst/regret/love/wanting/curiosity 3: title yikes, ugh, thin and depressing, did not like, "soundtrack" 4: more harmonica. love/searching. Nice outro 5: "soundtrack"; death 6: "railroad", nice banjo, tired/introspective/sad 7: isolation, suicidal, "soundtrack", nice instrumentals, did not like lyrics 8: nice opening, my favorite track on the album, Alabama! Gratuitous car reference, vibes 9: thin vocals, message: drugs bad. Reminds me of Beatrix Potter books? 10: guitar, revenge? Jealousy, more adult. I liked this one. Overall impression: I wanted to skip most of the album. The overall feeling it gives is "mellow depression". Almost millennial. 3/5

Eagles by Eagles

Notes: I listened to the 2013 remaster of this album over the course of the weekend. This album was a favorite of my dad's, but I'd never given it a serious listen. I found it easy, fun, and enjoyable listening. The instrumentals were excellent. Track 1: car ride feel, relaxed and upbeat. "country", weekends, amazing instrumentals. I really enjoyed this track Track 2: slower, "country" liked the vocals Track 3: Fierce and almost ominous instrumentals, nice vocals, confident tone. I found the song rather average. Track 4: thoughtful and slow, I appreciated this track. Track 5: change of pace, happy "summertime", upbeat, good car ride tune. Track 6: slow, easy, crossroads Track 7: drums. Ok lyrically but impressive instrumentally Track 8: interesting, upbeat and unique. work vs. play, freedom, "country". Enjoyable. Track 9: nothing special, great radio fodder. I'm not with the hype. Summertime. Track 10: I liked this one, it goes well with movement or exercise. About youth, art, new life in big city - I can relate! Overall impression: This album had excellent instrumentals and a summertime feel. Lyrically, a bit simple, touched on youth and freedom. Easy listening. 4/5

Surfer Rosa by Pixies

Listened to the 2007 remaster I finished the album and I can't put it into real words. Track 1: excellent songwriting, raw & polished idk. Very nice guitar Track 2: ok lyrics, very radio Track 3: I found it boring Track 4: wtf and I do not like falsetto Track 5: repetitive, nice vocals Track 6: idk why I like this one, but I do Track 7: I appreciated this track Track 8: nice, no deep impressions. Nice guitar Track 9: humorous intro, catchy. Incredulous Track 10: I found to be very noisy Track 11: spoken word? Wow instruments Track 12: oof. Track 13: bringing the intro back, really good. Overall impression: Tough subject matter. The sound is very 70/80/90/00s, which is to say it's not boxed in by decade. I appreciated the album, but I didn't enjoy most of the songs. I found a lot of the openings similar and I wasn't a fan of all of the lyrics, but I do see myself replaying some of the songs in the future. 3.5
