Not a fan, specifically of the messaging. The music's definitely good, and I can see why they were popular, but the satanic shit just doesn't sit well with me.
It’s simplicity and repetitive nature left a bitter yet melancholic taste in my ears, and as much as I try to debate to myself the importance of acts like these in Hip-Hops formative years, and how far performers and the genre itself has come, and can’t help be bored by this album. This avoids a one due to the artists ability to disc jockey and sample proficiently, as well as the obvious stand out track in “Walk this Way”, which paints a very clean and well executed collaboration of crossroads which sweetens this otherwise medicinal flavoured collection. I continually feel that a two is too harsh, but at the end of the day I always seem to be coming back to a key point that I will be the first to heavily admit, personal taste encroaches heavily upon: - Without Aerosmith Walk this Way would be significantly more repetitive and agonising than it is… Again, an opinion from some who wasn’t even alive when this album was going platinum, so whilst I reserve the right to have an opinion of works such as this, I don’t have all of the pieces to definitely talk about it’s finished puzzle.
Really good background music, as such haven't been deeply listening to any lyricism, just the instrumentals. With that being said, and as someone who going into this album was not keen for anything labelled as Reggae that this is an easy listening album that I could easily come back to! I HATE this "do it with your bad self" vamp in Am-A-Do, fuck this shit's annoying
An inspiring listen and feels like it would have inspired many following works of art, operas and stories within their own medium. On a first listen I don’t pay immediate attention towards lyricism and meaning, nor continually pause to dwell on the intent of the words painted, and this album is no exception to that. However, it certainly felt that it held some weight with the poems and lyrics it performed and will certainly be one that I intentionally come back to, to further dwell on the beginnings of my understanding on what is being said within it. For an album to generate an inspiring reaction from its listeners, or to pull their attention towards what is being said rather than how it’s saying it, is often an indicator of a strong album and its ability to say something and have an impact. And whilst this album doesn’t quite achieve the fullest ability to do such a thing, like many of the albums before and after it, it quietly whispers its message into the listeners ear and hopes that its audience follows its ensuing tangents. For me it’s certainly a tentative 3/5, and with myself using this as a daily “initial reactions” tool it has a high potential to promote itself in due time, as a very good chunk of these albums do. Time shall tell.
DUDE, I'm 2 songs through this album and BOTH TRACKS have stopped me in my tracks within the first 10 seconds 🤯🤯 This shit bangs... I didn't have time to record my thoughts whilst listening in full, tonight's dog wash night and I was reep cleaning that, but DAMN if this isn't the mint jams of Latin America! Really tight rhythm section, really crazy good vocal lead performance, just Casiopea meets a really nice helping of Masayoshi Takanaka meets Brazil. Already know that I'm coming back to this album, and potentially more of this artists Discography. Loved it 😎😎
