Catch A Fire by Bob Marley & The Wailers
Sep 06 2024

So, what a great first start to the 1001 album challenge!! I was a bit daunted at first when I saw 20 songs… but then I realised I had got the wrong album 🫣😮‍💨 Overall, I really enjoyed this album - more than I expected to! It really made me want to groove! I can see myself listening to the album both when I want something chill as well as when I wanted something good vibes (which I want a lot haha!) I particularly loved High Tide Low Tide! My one critique would be that some of the songs sounds slightly repetitive and, as a result, slightly boring! In all honesty, I don’t know how often I’ll come back to this album!

If You Can Believe Your Eyes & Ears by The Mamas & The Papas
Sep 09 2024

Ummm… so, this was an interesting listen! I can totally see how it was popular in the 1960s; it really is twist-your-leg type of music. However, unfortunately, it has not really survived the test of time! California Dreamin’ is iconic and really provided a midway through pick me up. However, the rest of the album was boring, a bit cringe and just not my vibe! I don’t think I’d really mind if I never heard any of these songs again! Feels harsh but #sorrynotsorry 🫣😂

Back At The Chicken Shack by Jimmy Smith
Sep 10 2024

At first I thought that five songs was rather short for an album. But once I realised it was basically an instrumental Jazz album, I realised five songs was plenty! Haha! I liked this album. From my limited knowledge of Jazz, this felt like a really good Jazz album. I liked the vibes of the album, however I do believe Jazz is much more enjoyable when listened to live. The only time I can really see myself listening to this is when I need to focus or study (I need to remember this for when I start my masters in January). My main criticism was that all the songs sounded the same really! It was hard for me to distinguish between when one song ended, and the next one started. Also I feel like the album title and song names don’t fit the vibe of the actual songs… a bit pedantic but oh well!
