So this album definitely demonstrates why Ray was a legend. For me, it could've used more up-tempo bangers. Stuff that moves. But the song-writing, arrangements, and production are all top-notch. I can appreciate it if I don't actually want to ever listen to it again.
This is an all-time album for me so a re-listen is always welcome. A masterpiece from top to bottom, should be required listening for all humans and probably most animals as well.
When I was in 5th grade, I had this album on cassette and listened to it non-stop. Obviously tastes change in 30+ years so it should not have surprised me that I didn't love it nearly as much this time around but I didn't really feel it now. Bad is a good song fundamentally but the production sounds pretty dated now. The Way You Make Me Feel still brings it but the rest of what was the A side are duds. Man in the Mirror is a classic but I could and did stop I Just Can't Stop Loving You. So, like, half bangers, half duds, I still get why it's heralded as an all-timer but just didn't do it for me.
