Rumours by Fleetwood Mac

I swear this has to be one of the biggest hype beast albums of its time. I’m not too familiar with this band, but I do love me some Stevie Nicks. You see this album by the hundreds at any given Walmart, Target, Barnes and noble etc. I feel like I can get this same vibe from REO and actually enjoy it a lot more. So for that; 3 stars

Fleet Foxes by Fleet Foxes

Sonically, this album is amazing. What’s even crazier is it’s a debut album and sounds so polished. Honestly could have came out today and I wouldn’t think twice. I will say, it’s a little slow for my liking, and after 2 listens, I don’t see too much replay value.

Rage Against The Machine by Rage Against The Machine

Perhaps this is another artist that I will revisit down the line and change my mind on. But upon my first two listens, I just really wasn’t in the headspace to fully appreciate this album. The influence of the beastie boys and other hip hop/rock artists of its time are heard throughout the duration of the album, but it just feels too bland for my liking. Honestly I’m getting Kid Rock vibes and cringing out

This Year's Model by Elvis Costello & The Attractions
Oct 01 2024

This has the perfect dose of 70’s tongue in cheek cringe, but all the tracks absolutely slap. I love the production, and Elvis Costello has definitely grown a ton on me since first listening to this project. There’s no denying the catchiness of these songs, and that this is perhaps his most rounded record I’ve heard so far.

The Köln Concert by Keith Jarrett

I just can’t get behind it. I’m not a big piano guy. There’s not much to delve into with this record.

Stand outs: One Cord Wonders On the roof I really enjoyed my listen through on this record. I usually bash on the early punk projects we see on here, but this one was very very interesting. I love the riffs, but some of the substance within the music is bland and not so replayable. I was genuinely shocked when I saw this dropped in 78. It doesn’t sound nearly THAT dated

White Blood Cells by The White Stripes
Oct 07 2024

In hindsight, I can see how people could see this album being pretty cliche for garage rock, but given that it was a trailblazer of its time, I can really appreciate the tunes. I think this album plays it pretty safe, and doesn’t try to overdo it. Some of these classic albums just try too much, and it kills the replay value, but I think the white stripes hit the nail on the head here. Opening track is really fun, and how could I forget about the seemingly most popular movie track of all time, we’re going to be friends? If we had half stars it’d be 3.5 for me.

Songs For Swingin' Lovers! by Frank Sinatra
Oct 08 2024

Italian Mom music. Idk man maybe I’m just hearing this at the wrong time in my life, but this music makes my depression infinitely worse. Coming home to the wife and kids with dinner cooked POV. I’ve always just had this feeling that Sinatra is one of the more overrated artists of all time, but I’ll probably die alone on that boat. Oh well. Rip.

This tries too hard imo. I get it, futuristic new wave hip hop of its time, but thematically it’s just all over the place. So many experimental songs (which I can respect and enjoy) but it really doesn’t leave me wanting to come back. No 1 st. Was a standout track to me, I just really liked the more straight forward hip-hop on here.

Cheap Thrills by Big Brother & The Holding Company
Oct 10 2024

Do we consider this early psychedelic rock? This album is a studio recorded record, yet is produced and performed in a way to make it sound live. I think Janis Joplin is another one of those Artists similar to Bob Dylan, in that you love or hate them due to their voice. There’s a ton of fun guitar jamming here. I think this record has a TON of room to grow on me, I really do like it, I just need more time with it to fully appreciate it. Favorite tracks: Summer time Ball and chain

Want One by Rufus Wainwright

Why do I keep getting these albums that I’m clearly not in the headspace for? God, my first reaction was that this was B-Side tracks for some shitty Shrek sequel; little did I know this dude actually does Hallelujah in the original. Idk I think I need to be in a better sappy mood to truly enjoy this album, the performances themselves aren’t bad.

This album is so Nostalgic from my childhood. At the time it came out, I remember thinking I’ve never heard anything like it before (yeah bro I listened to Eminem and LMFAO all day what did you expect) but it hit SO hard and still does to this day. One of my favorite opening tracks on an album ever.

Safe As Milk by Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band

There’s some fun but admittedly generic jamming in this album, and I will admit this sounds very dated compared to other favs of this era I’ve found through this challenge. I think I’ll leave this one to Parish New York.
