1001 Albums Summary

Great album. Some of his best tracks on here; although there's a couple whose absence wouldn't be missed.

For such a vocal-centric record, the writing is really nothing spectacular, and I can only take so much of Chris Martin. But darn if there aren't some great melodies. Shiver and Yellow are the stand outs. Spies is kinda boring.

Tight drums and surprisingly good guitar work. A couple songs blow, private affair and the last one. Ebbs between phenomenal, like on the opener, and fairly standard early punk. Sounds with "retard" in the chorus running tally = 1

I mean it's not bad on any technical level but it's boring. Not really a single memorable tune. Cherokee best track by far, but most of these are snoozers. Really not my style.

David Bowie. Got a lot of his greatest racks on it, Changes and Life on a Mars being the best. Really interesting overall, a couple of songs that don't quite land but it doesn't detract from the album. It is very one-note instrumentally, which changes on his future albums.

It's like if you took every 90s pop rock band and took various elements from them to create the most statistically average collection of songs. It's U2, Radiohead and Oasis with all the meat removed. There's not a single daring or bold element on the album. Despite its averageness I don't hate it. There's not really any obviously bad tracks; it's all perfectly inoffensive, if even charming at times.

It's a very ambitious album, especially for a debut. Lupe's writing is sharp and the production is consistently fantastic. I'm not sure the runtime is entirely justified, there's a few tracks I feel don't carry the same momentum, but it's a great album overall. Top tracks Kick, Push, Hurt Me Soul & Pressure.

The songs vary from somewhat interesting sounds to really generic arena rock type shit. Thom Yorke and Bono only pull off the whiny vocals because the songwriting's not so vapid. There are a couple solid tracks, starlight and supermassive black hole, but overall really mediocre.
