1001 Albums Summary

- Love the heavy blues influence mixed with newer age rock - I can visualize how this layed the foundations of dad rock - Layla is obviously the standout here, as it has the best progression, most recognizable sound, and killer guitar solo - A lot of songs wind up sounding very similar due to the bluesy backbone of the tracks - Solid Little Wing cover, and I like the tonal finish of the final song, Thorn Tree in the Garden

- I respect that the album feels grandiose compared to other Indie Rock albums - Fun mix of genres, doesn't play it safe with its sound - That being said, some of the songs fall flat in execution, didn't grab me in any way - Oddly fitting for the time, the album feels like it missed the boat on this specific snapshot of indie rock, but it coincides well with the underlying theme of leaving the suburbs behind"

- This album is just chock full of glam pop-isms that must have really shaken up the rock world of the time - Each song has a fairly distinct voice, it's difficult to trap this album in a box - Some songs certainly hit harder than others, and I wouldn't call this Queen's magnum opus but it definitely defines what makes Queen so special as movers and shakers"

- Great representation of folksy blues - Graveyard Train really knows how to meander around the bayou, whopping 8 minute song! - Great guitar improv and solos that get time to breathe on many of the tracks - Hard to quantify as best of CCR, as they have so many other great beats"

- This album sometimes embodies the phrase 'critics can't make art' - It feels like he's throwing all the right ingredients into the pot but the end product is less than the sum of its parts and just comes out being weird for weird's sake - The talking heads influence is palpable, but it comes off as more of a bad imitation - The tracks don't do a great job of blending instruments at times, they feel disjointed like his Garageband looping track got away from him"

- Really beautiful soundscape that tastefully incorporates synths and traditional instruments to create vibrant environments - Manage to capture a very haunting piece of sound without falling into the trap of becoming too avant garde or pretentiously artsy - Mimics early Pink Floyd in some of their acoustic aesthetics - No stellar stand-out tracks, but hard to hate any of the songs on here, as they all feel as though they serve a component purpose to the whole of the album - This album has certainly earned a second listen to appreciate the whole thing
