Fall and Winter listening. Clear cool day, warm sun. Wandering in a city or in the woods? I think a city. I can only take so much Morrissey, but this album is perfect. His melancholic voice and lyrics have a nice balance with Johnny Marr's light cheerful guitar. This album played prominently in my teen years and opened my mind to what music can do and where it can take you. The bass comes through well, always a strong counterbalance. All sorts of interesting accompaniment at just the right times. Good blend of upbeat and mellow. Original and unique in so many ways when it was released, and still sounds fresh. A definite keeper in my catalog.

Hotel California by Eagles
Nov 10 2024

The title track meant a lot to me when I was younger, like Stairway to Heaven and Comfortably Numb. Gave me all the feels. Listening to it now, I still like it but probably wouldn’t reach for it very often. The rest of the tracks are ok, I prefer the mellow ones. It has that warm sunset or early evening feel, somewhere near a beach, when I have it all.

Dire Straits by Dire Straits
Nov 11 2024

Incredible production and recording. Good mix of mellow and some upbeat. An ethereal atmospheric quality that is unique to Dire Straits and some other British rock artists. Mark Knopfler solo guitar work is unique and stands out. Definitely listen to again. Great album from beginning to end.

Fear Of A Black Planet by Public Enemy
Nov 12 2024

Boom pow. Like a one-two punch. Nonstop driving force. Head boppin the entire time. Good workout music. These guys have a lot to say. Flavor Flavs accompaniment like an exclamation point. When this came out originally, I was not a fan of rap or hip hop music. Over the years I’ve grown to enjoy some of it and this one will now forever be on that list.

Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness by The Smashing Pumpkins
Nov 13 2024

A bit of a long one to get through. Not really the music that appeals to me these days. I can get into some of the tracks. I can dig the musical theme throughout, like a concept album, which I hold a lot of respect for. It’s just not for me these days. Maybe after a few more listens I’ll recognize some tracks that have caught my attentIon.

Blood On The Tracks by Bob Dylan
Nov 14 2024

Enjoyed listening to it. Like a bunch of short stories being told by a haggard traveler. The production or recording quality could have sounded better. I’d listen to it again in the future, I’m glad it’s in my 1001 playlist now.

Superfly by Curtis Mayfield
Nov 16 2024

I like a couple of the tracks, but didn’t finish. A lot of the tracks kind of sound the same to me. I have a feeling this was groundbreaking at the time it came out not sure how many other soul R&B concept albums existed at that point.

A Little Deeper by Ms. Dynamite
Nov 17 2024

I added it to the 1001 albums playlist. I dug some of it.

Mothership Connection by Parliament
Nov 19 2024

Upbeat interesting sounds that have inspired many artists over the following decades. Oozing optimism and good natured fun.

Thriller by Michael Jackson
Nov 20 2024

Didn’t realize it came out in 1982. Unlocked some memories of the excitement around the Thriller video, the regular one and the long form one. Saw the long form one at a roller skating rink off the Roosevelt Blvd in Philadelphia.

Dookie by Green Day
Nov 23 2024

Power pop punk. I’d rather listen to The Descendents or The Dickies or The Ramones when in the mood for music like this.

Melody A.M. by Röyksopp
Nov 27 2024

Groovy interesting and cool synthesized sounds and beats. Varied moods between tracks. Cool album, I’d listen to it again. Probably quote original for its time.

Hard Again by Muddy Waters
Dec 17 2024

Blistering. Best listen to loud. Crackles with energy. Deserves a place in my permanent library. My only criticism is I think the tracks could be shuffled around to make it more consistent beginning to end.

Blue Lines by Massive Attack
Dec 20 2024

Love it. Give it time to let it slowly ooze in to your soul. Love the vibe. Dark and warm. Added it to my collection. Will listen to it many more times.
