1001 Albums Summary

I know it's a classic Stones album, but like every other time I've tried to get into them as an album band, I find there's too much bluesy filler. Some great tracks though and nothing I especially disliked

Not normally up for a whole album off Blues but this goes hard

Soulful and lots of pretty harmonies and I like the anti-apartheid history and Paul Simon link but an album is far too much for me

Well-written pop songs, but the instrumentation, production, melodramatic vocals, whole vibe really, irritates me a lot

Should probably be a three, because it is mostly atmospheric and vibes-based and not hugely creative or interesting in that space either. Air have what should be quite an insipid, anodyne sound but it's somehow instantly recognisable and just gets to me on some level and transports me. Was also going for a two or three but as the album moved towards its climax, along with the film, the darkness, dread and awe increased. Loved the last song so a win for recency bias maybe

An absolute classic but it's never been my favourite Bowie era or sound. Much prefer Hunky Dory, Low and maybe one or two others

My parents used to put this on in the car on holiday - maybe that's where it all went wrong 😅 He's got great flow and comic timing but the ironic detachment doesn't let him get away with a lot of the shitty attitudes and bigotry he presents. Some catchy and fun songs but the music is as flimsy dated as much of the humour. 1.5 pushed to 2 for nostalgia's sake 😂

Has there ever been an album with so many epic riffs? Page, Bonham, Paul Jones deserve a 5 but some of Plant's cringe brings it down to 4.5
