1001 Albums Summary

Album wasn't quite my taste but i enjoyed it - the production was very considered and the entire record felt really coherent. I enjoyed the kind of grungey, harder edge rock style combined with a flurry of pop elements. A lot of really recognisable melodies and songs on this album which are really catchy, although i wasn't particularly fond of the content of some of the songs. I felt they were slightly corny and hadn't quite aged so well. Perhaps i would've thought differently if i listened when it was released. Overall i did enjoy the record but i don't think i'll be returning often to listen to it!

Really cool record, super energetic and catchy. Enjoyed quite a few tunes but personally took a few listens to properly get into it. Great drum sounds and the recordings sound nice and clean. You can see how it laid the foundations for future bands, i feel like i can definitely hear some remnants of this style in some 00s bands. Can definitely see some influence of Elvis in Miles Kane. Wicked basslines too, the attractions sound great and are really tight. They definitely make the record feel really coherent throughout, providing a strong backbone to Elvis' raw vocals. Overall everything feels pretty dry and raw actually which is a good thing, it lends itself to the record feeling really punchy and effective. The vocals are upfront and overall the mixing is spot on.

An incredible album. My favourite so far (even though i've just started). An album i'll be coming back to regularly from time to time. The production and creativity behind the record is amazing, really interesting and unique sounds, slick vocal delivery and incredibly creative lyric wise. I'd listened a few times but felt i'd only really scratched the surface of what this album has the offer. I love Thundercat's contributions, you can really hear his sound shining through in some of the tracks. The sample usage and beats are dope as well. You can really feel Kendrick's attitude come across in the entire album, it's kind of laid back but incredibly coherent and visceral in a way. I would continue listening heavily if i didn't need to move onto other albums.

Really cool record, can definitely hear some Beatles & Bowie influence here. Really enjoyed it but it was something i should have gotten into when i was younger, the 90s britpop essence didn't quite resonate with me (especially now) but i enjoyed the album either way. Some great guitar solos and it felt kind of scruffy but also neat in a way, crunchy and raw but well executed.
