Morrison Hotel by The Doors
Jan 25 2025

I listened to the album for the first time in France as a teenager. Listening to it takes me back: Hanging out with Frenchies on the beaches of Sète. They would ask me to translate lyrics and I tried my best. I think I said "I have three boats and there is land!" Good memories. I need to try and sing this album next time I have strep and am happily angry to be alive.

1989 by Taylor Swift
Jan 28 2025

I've never listened to a Taylor Swift album which is surprising considering many of my most respected colleagues are obsessed with her music. I've always felt I was not the target audience I suppose. I do appreciate that she was one of a few billionaires not sitting on stage during the inauguration. I most enjoyed the first track of the album. The 80s style synth was well done. It reminded me a lot of Stranger Things soundtrack artist Michael Stein who makes modern music that sounds more 80s than actual 80s music. The rest of the album didn't really resonate with me. It's certainly something I would be happy to dance to when just the right amount of drunk. Ex: Say I start drinking at 4pm. I would love this album from like 4:45 to 5:30. I've also never been disappointed, hurt or angry enough with another person to really connect with these lyrics. Considering the insane sales and devoted following, she's obviously doing something right. But the same can be said of Fireball whiskey.

Makes me really wish I hadn't been a straight square hiding out in a church basement when it came time to party likes it's 1999. I noticed the synth in a few of the songs sound a lot like the soundtrack from Sega's Sonic and Tails.
