1001 Albums Summary

Why is it so theatrical? Like I’m listening to a musical. So cheesy. Maybe it sounds cheesy bc it was the first of its kind. Sounds like the chorus is doing jazz hands in the back. 73/100 on album of the year seems about 13 points too high. 46 mins, 6 songs —. Zoned out of most of “Took the words right out of my mouth”. Oh god a clapping section. Genuinely want to meet the person that meatloaf wrote some of these about, I would be terrified if I were the subject of these songs. Just when I thought it couldn’t get worse, growl-y saxophone comes in during “all revved up but no place to go”. Honestly if these songs were cut by about 50%, this album would be listen-able. It’s a toe tapper bc of all the blues scales, which were invented by black people. Glad I never have to listen to this album again.

Funky grooves, articulate flow. I think to get more out of this album I’d have to listen to it again, good sign.

Some early throes of punk. I am also bored of the USA. Good album.

First album of the 1001 that is rock, that was fun. In my opinion, the album decreased in goodness with every proceeding song… I wasn’t expecting a kinks cover (kinks did it better)…

Great album. Sitting on a porch in the rain type beat. Delish.

I love when rock artists prove they’re band kids at heart. Also, goes to show vampire weekend/other modern indie bands that get a little artsy with it are not all that original. What it lacks in cohesion it makes up for in interest and texture.

Really interesting. Not sure I’ve ever heard something like this album, it kind of sounds like a soundtrack? More emo than what I was expecting? Fascinating.
