1001 Albums Summary

Well this is obviously one of the biggest commercial albums and critically acclaimed pieces from the king of pop himself. Has some of his biggest career hits and best pop songs of all time, like Billie Jean, Wanna be Startin Somethin, Thriller, Beat It, PYT. Wanna Be Startin Somethin is honestly slept on, the grooves on the track are some of the most unreal things I've ever heard, especially in combo with the horns. The horns and synths on this thing are incredible throughout, and how I wish pop music was now -- bring me complex production that reaches the limit of listening comprehension, the point right before sounds become overwhelming. Some of the lesser known songs are good, especially Baby Be Mine. Not in love with The Girl is Mine at all, something about it I kinda can't stand, and I think Human Nature is incredibly boring. The impact this had on pop music moving forward is undeniable and warranted, in the moments where the album is at its highs.

Beautiful, soulful voice that doesn't stray too far from her wheelhouse. Very much an artist who knows what she's good at, and hammers that over and over again. Absolutely love "Water with the Wine", the drum line is perfect. The horns in Love and Affection are amazing, and the one song that I've heard prior to this listen. Join the Boys has an outrageously good instrumentation with the piano riffs, and is a fantastic protest song – Are you in, are you out? – is addicting. People is the same in terms of instrumentation, piano is insane + this one has electric guitar pieces. Found myself a little bored towards the last three songs of the album, but overall a pretty good listen.
