I don't know if it's the remaster but I can barely hear the vocals. This album feels like a more organized Grateful Dead project but without the Bohemian spirit. There are definitely some progressive elements for the time but they try to do too much in every song rather than showcasing the variety of styles and techniques across multiple songs.
I know half these songs but they just never did it for me and they still don't. It's either musically too light for the lyrics or aggressively distorted with little to show for it. Welfare Mothers is always fun but other than that there's nothing that I haven't heard before. I'm sure it was groundbreaking in 1979 but even then it just sounds like Springsteen lite, without a saxophone, keyboards, or coherent vision.
