Elvis Presley by Elvis Presley
Apr 16 2025

Where it all started. Singularly great voice, his guitar player is great too. Feels hard to rate this objectively; you have to give it 5 because without it there is no rock n roll etc. But also, in the subsequent years music was made that quickly made some of these songs seem middle of the road, which would have been an insane thought at the time.

Young Americans by David Bowie
Apr 17 2025

Not one of my favourite Bowie albums. Listening all the way through I was reminded of its quality. What a guy. Most consistently brilliant artist of the 1970s?

Green by R.E.M.

Great great alt rock, Mike mills makes this a hell of a listen. Second half can drag a bit?? Maybe. One of the best opening tracks of any alt rock album I reckon.

Parachutes by Coldplay
Apr 21 2025

First half is unbelievable, second half tapers off a bit. Slagging off Coldplay doesn’t make you cool. If Don’t Panic was a recently unearthed Elliott Smith B-side everyone would lose their heads over it.

Wish You Were Here by Pink Floyd
Apr 22 2025

Good album, not as good as dark side. Have a cigar and to a lesser extent Welcome to the machine feel a bit forced and clunky. Shine on 1-5 and Wish you were here are all time great songs.

Rubber Soul by Beatles
Apr 23 2025

All time classics at either end. Couple of merely good tracks in the middle mean it’s just outside top tier Beatles for me. I think the John tracks on this one are the better ones.

Dry by PJ Harvey

Sex Packets by Digital Underground

Not my bag, good production tho
