Cool Jazz Landmark album which introduced the more restrained, arranged and cerebral cool jazz style. Compiled tracks from sessions with a nine piece nonet recorded between 1949 and 1950 yet released in 1957. 7.0

Blues rock / Hard rock Morrison Hotel marked a return to raw rock ‘n’ roll after the more experimental and controversial The Soft Parade. The album is split into two conceptual sides: “Hard Rock Café” and “Morrison Hotel”, both titles taken from real Los Angeles locations. After legal troubles and a period of public backlash, The Doors stripped things back here—embracing bluesy riffs, gritty vocals, and a bar-band energy. I think the album started off strong but became more boring/ repetitive near the end. Overall accessible decent rock 6.5

Country / Folk American IV is the final album released in Johnny Cash’s lifetime, and the fourth in his critically acclaimed collaboration with producer Rick Rubin. By this point, Cash’s voice had grown frail but deeply expressive, and the album’s content—mostly covers—centers on themes of death, redemption, love, and finality. This help is raw and vulnerable. He has a really great smooth deep voice and the songwriting is very good. But personally i just didn’t enjoy the music that much it wasnt for me. Folsom blues was better. 3.0

New Wave / Post Punk This is the second album from Talking Heads and the first of their legendary collaborations with Brian Eno. Released in 1978, it built upon the minimalist nerviness of their debut but added more polish, texture, and rhythmic complexity. The title is famously ironic—it literally is more songs about buildings and food, poking fun at critics who said their music lacked emotion. The album includes their first hit: a funk-infused cover of Al Green’s “Take Me to the River.” Eno’s presence marks the beginning of the band’s shift toward more experimental territory. This was a decent new wave album, nothing offensive or polarising just okay. 6.0

Folk rock / Singer-songwriter Blood on the Tracks is widely seen as one of Dylan’s masterpieces—and one of the most emotionally raw albums in his discography. Released in 1975 after a period of personal upheaval (including his separation from wife Sara), the album is steeped in themes of heartbreak, memory, regret, and reflection. Though Dylan has denied it’s autobiographical, few albums capture the emotional weight of a dissolving relationship quite like this one. Recorded quickly, with some sessions later re-recorded in Minneapolis, the album walks a tightrope between folk minimalism and country-blues. Mid bob dylan album, his voice sounds different than usual, good songwriting though. 4.0
