It's fine. Not timeless, not essential listening. Maybe interesting as an example of sampling/cutting techniques in a listen that follows up on listenting to the source material or other old blues/gospel music. Total meh. Not awful or unlistenable, but also not remarkable. I'm neutral on it. I'm happy I finally listened to this but haven't been missing anything. I love the fusion of genres generally but the whole isn't better than the sum of the parts here. There are better blues, gospel and electronic albums, and personally I'd remove this from the 1,001 albums list and replace it with one of them.

Of course someone should listen to this. Still rips. As strong a statement about what a certain demographic of 90s young person was thinking about as any. It's an album about demons, created by a band haunted by them. I was only tangentially into this as a teenager in the 90s--I couldn't deny Rooster or Them Bones when they came on in my friends' cars, but overall to my ears at the time there was too much 80s metal in its genes and it sounded kinda dated--but sounds great to my 40 something ears now.

its ok.... plodding. sad that this is on the list but not My Morning Jacket... this just sounds like Jim James unelectrified with annoying Beach Boy harmonies. Ragged Wood is lifted straight from Golden which came out 4 years before

one of my favorite albums ever... play ballad of el goodo at my funeral, its a perfect pop song. If you've heard this album you know. If you haven't, what the hell are you doing with your life? Stop reading this and listen to it
