Jungle Brothers
It was an interesting listen. Immediately can hear the Local Natives/Tribe Called Quest sound in the album, so wasn't surprised at all to learn they were one of the OG Local Natives groups. Unlike A Tribe Called Quest however, I feel the album lacks complexity and feels dated in a way that I found it hard to listen to.
To me the beats stood out as the strongest part of the album. I appreciate the messaging, though felt the actual lyrics and rhymes to be simple and a little stunted. Overall can appreciate the influence it had on projects I love, but think it's not something I'll come back to myself.
Rating a 2 on personal enjoyment but understand thats not fair to an album thats from a different era in a different context.

Songs From The Big Chair

Thought it was really enjoyable. Unexpected for me as I normally don’t really like the 80s synth pop sound and this embraces that sound fully. Everything was mixed beautifully and with both clear individual pieces and complex layerings that I thought created an interesting soundscape. Happy I was exposed to something so different I enjoyed so much.
Highlight for me was “The Working Hour”

Really enjoyed the album. It's what I picture when I think of BritPop though that's probably unfair to an album that is actually pretty experimenting. Love Gorrilaz so was fun listening to an earlier Albarn project.
Favorite track was "This is a Low", feels like it could have been cut off of "The Bends".

Some weirdo shit over funk rhythms. I liked it. This is an album where I think the one album per day review system fails, as I think its different enough that I'd like to listen/relisten to it over some time to fully digest. I think it would grow on me. While I wasn't fully sold on Byrnes voice I liked his playfulness in how he approached singing over different songs.
Highlight: Memories Cant Wait

Jimi Hendrix
I am too biased for this review. I own a white strat. I don't have much to add to what a genius Jimi is, we still copy his playing 60 years later. Only thing I will add is I think Mitch Mitchell's drumming on this album is awesome. He has a great feel/time that lets Jimi go crazy.

There are songs on here I really liked. The clubbier ones where the production is bolder, but there’s just too many songs that are bland/not really my interest. A lot I liked about the production on this album, though it has those early digital era snare samples I find grating. Wish it leaned farther into the funky/electronic parts of the sound.

Fun punk music. I appreciate how it sounds like they’re having so much fun on the album. I think every song may have been about getting laid. Enjoyed it !

My least favorite album so far. Just about everything of the 80s sound I don’t like. It’s still listenable as I imagine most of the albums on this list would be, but I will probably never choose to revisit it.
