Sweetheart Of The Rodeo
The ByrdsEnjoyable country rock, if a bit quaint sounding today. Would happily listen again to most of the album. Favorite song: I Am a Pilgrim
Great vibes and some great covers, but a little too slow and samey to actively listen to. Porch music but not headphone music.
Goes down smooth, but most of the album is not remarkably interesting. Longview - Welcome to Paradise - Basket Case make it all worthwhile, though. Feels like a 90s-ified Monkees album (compliment).
Really pleasant listen. Unique takes on familiar sounds. Listened through a few times to see if it would get its hooks in me, but has not yet. Still, enjoyed it.
Even with the best of intentions, I cannot find anything to latch onto with this album.
Some really great songs, fun genre-jumping between songs. Long album, though, and much of it didn't stand out. Will likely re-listen and re-appraise.
Fun and varied, somehow a tight album even with a medley of half finished songs to close it out. Where else would you have songs like Octopus's Garden followed by I Want You (She's So Heavy)? There's something I enjoy about the last real hurrah of the Beatles ending with the simple little ditty of Her Majesty. Favorite Song(s): Medley from You Never Give Me Your Money through Her Majesty
I enjoy Strokes songs individually but I find it a bit samey to listen through a full album. Still, it's snappy and distinct.
Enjoyable country rock, if a bit quaint sounding today. Would happily listen again to most of the album. Favorite song: I Am a Pilgrim
I already enjoy Blondie, so this was an enjoyable listen. I like the back half of the album a bit more. I actually think One Way or Another is kind of annoying. Favorite Song: Heart of Glass
A simple-but-powerful sounding album. Smooth and pleasant to have on. Will have to revisit to actually dig into the songs. Favorite song: Mountains O' Things
Not necessarily my speed, but still a good listen. I liked a lot of the moody arrangements and instrumentation. Favorite song: The Killing Moon
I think just by nature of hearing different heavy metal developed over the past 45 years, this album feels a little milquetoast. Still, a fun listen. Favorite song: United
Loved this one. I can see how this informed a lot of the music I like. The contrast of simple almost bubblegum pop buried in really abrasive noise and texture really catches me. Already listened a few times. Favorite song: In a Hole
Clearly not the target audience for this, and I'm not knowledgeable enough about gangster rap to know it's place in history. Still, I can appreciate the artistry and skill and from a purely auditory standpoint it is fun to listen to (maybe not for a full hour though).
Will have to dig back in at a later date. Perfectly enjoyable to have on, but reggae isn't necessarily my speed and it all blended together.
Not my speed, but definitely evokes the exact era it's from, which is kind of endearing. I don't necessarily want to listen to a full album of these vocals.
An album I'm familiar with, though I haven't listened through since college probably. I forgot how fun and almost upbeat the album is, in contrast to what I normally think of in terms of Elliott Smith. Son of Sam is a perfect power pop song, and one of my favorite songs in general. Junk Bond Trader sounds like an old west showdown. The drums and strings kicking in in Everything Means Nothing to Me made my heart flutter. After listening through again, I think I like every song.
I've been interested to hear more early heavy metal, but so far I've found it a bit tame. Most of the stuff I found most interesting on this album was when it drifts away from metal. Still, I enjoyed having it on.
Very groovy, doesn't overstay its welcome. Still, I don't love hearing a Frenchman grumble-half-singing for half an hour, especially upon learning it's about an underage girl.
