#1 Record
Big Star
This record had some fantastic songwriting and performances! Can definitely see this being an incredibly influential album for many American rock bands that came afterwards. Truly just a solid set of tracks with nothing sticking out like a sore thumb.
I did get war flashbacks when the That 70s Show theme began playing, though.

The bars and beats were excellent! Truly an influential CA hip hop record.
I will forever be a proponent that bad skits affect a hip hop record’s enjoyment for me.

I don’t think this album aged very well.
The performances were on point! Guitars, drums, bass - these guys are masters at their crafts, absolutely. But I swear, Sting’s lyrics are something I could go about not having to listen to. His heavy-handedness with his lyricism is like a cold shower as I attempt to get into the groove of the instrumentals. “On Any Other Day” was probably cutting in its time; now it feels embarrassing. “I’ve got contacts in my book and in my eyes”? Yeesh. It’s a bummer, because Sting has a great voice! Album has some decent tracks, but I wouldn’t say this is something I see myself going back to.

The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan
Bob Dylan
Damn.
I originally listened to this album in high school, and back then I just couldn’t grasp the themes as well as I could now in adulthood. While Dylan’s second ever album, this record sounds modern in its simplistic production and its still-prescient lyrics. Speaking of lyrics, this album has some of the best written folk tracks I’ve ever heard. Dylan imbues each track with soul; never once did I feel as though he was ever lying to me. Each track conveys honest conviction; what more can you ask for from a record like this?

If You Can Believe Your Eyes & Ears
The Mamas & The Papas
I lot of ear worms on this one by way of the Monkees, Beach Boys, and the Beatles. The sound is fun, the lyrics are easy-going even at its most emotional. Will this stick with me? Not as much as their contemporaries. Do they still feel important? Of course. Definitely a good record to get into the zeitgeist of pop around this era.

Portishead
Absolute classic from potentially the best trip-hop band of all time. Every track oozes a smoky charisma with Beth Gibbons heavenly vocals crooning like each word’s her last. There’s nothing quite like this!
