Slipknot by Slipknot
Aug 12 2025

Very raw emotionally, iconic heavy metal rythem, lyrics are unintelligible at points, but I think that's intentional. The words we are able to make out feel more impactful. I can see why people would call it edgy and tripe, but coming out of the emotional apathy that was the mid 90s, it answers a different anger (and I'll admit, angst) than what was around it generally. I think it's not my cup of tea for a full listen through, but to someone else I can absolutely understand if this album defined the musical tastes of a lot of my generation. Feels like an album full of singles, not sure if I could put this on a road trip and listen cover to cover. It does make me want to buy a drum kit and play the ever living shit out of it, the drums absolutely carry this for me.

From Elvis In Memphis by Elvis Presley

It's fine. It speaks to the volume and impact this music had, because in current day it sounds very bland and uninspired. "I love you baby, you love me baby, alright cool". Neat to see where we've come from, but as a standalone product in the current landscape, it's boring and dry. Reminds me of a hospital waiting room. I could absolutely see this being the bees knees when it came out.

A Love Supreme by John Coltrane
Aug 14 2025

John Coltrane made an excellent jazz album. He is a monolith. This album inspired a lot of people that I love to listen to. I sort of hear the musical conversation and improv, and it is interesting. All that said, I just didn't enjoy the experience of listening to it. I felt like I would miss part of the conversation, and I have nothing to catch myself back up, the music just keeps moving. I'm glad this album was made, but I'm not going to pretend like I understood what was happening.
