I fully enjoyed the album. The first half (Big Boi's side) had a lot of music I had not give a fair listen to when originally released. Tracks with Killer Mike really stood out.
Not exactly my normal vibe but it had a bop to it. "Drive My Car" , "Nowhere Man", "The Word", "Michelle", "In My Life", "Wait", and "Run" were very good. The album had an Austin Powers meets Roy Orbison sound to it. Like I said not my normal listening preference. More of a 70 soul, Blues, 80s Pop, Rock, 80s Chicago House, Hip-Hop, New Soul listener.
This album was one that I had heard a lot about but never dove into. Listening to it in its entirety I think is a must. The album definitely has that weird Bowie feel to it. In all, I'd say from my perspective as just a casual listener to David Bowies more pop centric hits, this is an excellent listening album. It keeps you interested why at the same time being very casual and laid back. I'll be listening again.
Just not my kind of music. You can't really dance to it. He not a particularly good singer. It doesn't make your head bob. There nothing awe inspiring. It's supposed to be salt of the earth, blue collar music, but I just don't relate to it. "Born in the USA" and "Hungry Heart" are about the only Springsteen songs I would be able to think of off hand, so I'm no expert.
If your a fan of the very stripped down garage band sound this will probably be to your liking. The second half of the album was in my opinion much more memorable than the first half. Starting at track 7 my level of enjoyment increased. Track 8 "Chelsea" had a nice percussive pace to it kind of felt a little Chili Pepper / No doubt ish with its kinda reggae sound. The album closes out on high not with the track 14 "Radio". I was only slightly familia with Elvis Costello, mainly being introduce to him in 1983 with his international hit "Everyday I write the Book", but beyond that I really couldn't tell you the title of another of his records. But all in all it was an interesting listen.
A lot better than I imagined. Not very knowledgeable about Coopers music. I just know the imagery of the painted face and snakes etc. To my surprise, this album has touch of rhythm and soul to it, where I was expecting more of an Ozzy / Black Sabbath sound.
