I think I’ve only heard this once or twice in my life, but really enjoyed it. Felt like a really strait forward rock album, but felt true to Elvis and his vibe. For me it isn’t anything special, and I may not select it to play in mixed company, but would fully enjoy if someone else selected it..
Highlights for me were This Is Hell and
Sulky Girl.. both excellent tracks!!
This album is one I’m very familiar with. In our rehearsal studio, we wore this album out and covered Mambo Sun and The Motivator in most of our sets. I think Mark Bolan was so influential on guitarists I have loved ever since, the early stages of Indie Rock.. Andy Wood, Frank Black and Britt Daniel come immediately to mind, but many more.
I never considered this record ‘Glam Rock’ which it was widely considered to be. Either way, after listening for the first time in a while, I still love it. Really simple, but has a very unique vibe, which while influential, has not necessarily been duplicated. It’s a solid 4 for me, and has its place in my collection. That said after listening today, probably won’t pull it again for a long time. PS, classic album art, forever a recognizable image 👀
This album has some classic songs, and JT is a cool creative band, but they have never been a band that has really connected to me.. I’m not sure if it’s the vocals, or kind of theatrical arrangements, but I’ve never quite got it. That said, I enjoyed the listen
not much to say about this one.. groundbreaking album, a bunch of amazingly creative songs.. I’m a big Bowie fan, so maybe I’m biased, but this is one of the more influential albums ever imo
I completely understand why Elliott Smith has had such an impact on so many music fans, he definitely has a haunting quality to his songs and music. This album actually rocks more than some of his records, and I think it’s pretty solid. That said, I am not a huge fan of this album or really most of his albums. I think my favorite is Either/Or but overall he never really does a whole lot for me.. his voice has also been kinda a deal breaker for me, too restrained and purposefully hushed, almost whiny at times
Grew up in prime Madonna days, she was absolutely huge, as much as a pre internet ⭐️ can be.. her jams played at every party, so some fun memories. From a music standpoint, it really doesn’t have a place
I agree with the group, not a whole lot to get excited about here. A few songs that I like, but a tough listen all the way through
This album represents my overall feeling about Peter Gabriel. It either absolutely love it, or have zero interest with it. Very little middle ground with his music, even with Genesis. On this album, songs like Solsbury Hill, Slowburn and especially Here Comes The Flood are just ‘bloody brilliant’, but a few also that are throw aways for me.. no half-zies so it’s a 3, but a high 3 based on the good songs alone
I’m not a fan of the band or the album, I can’t listen to Axl Rose sing..
Give it follows Doolittle, I think one of the more under rated Pixies records.. It has a different vibe than the first couple. I think Frank shines and you can tell he took control of the songwriting on this one, which for me is a good thing. What makes this special are the tracks like Allison, Dig For Fire and Havalina, which are so different than anything they’d previously done
I was a metalhead in the 80s, this came out in my Sr year and it was a regular jam for me and my posse.. I think it’s by far the best Anthrax record, and will always have a place in my heart. That said, it has not aged consistent with my current musical taste, but still really enjoyed a nostalgic head bang!!!
I was excited for this record because I hadn’t heard it before. I enjoyed variety of influences, but also thought that it hurt the flow of the album. I came across a bit all over the place. Just when I thought I was gonna hear more of something that I liked, it switched gears on me. Overall I enjoyed it enough to give it a second listen, but the second listen didn’t change my opinion very much.
Similar to my first Elvis review. I like this one better than the one we did last week
