Enola/Alone is such a good song. It is pure mid-90s alternative rock with a hooky chorus and great breakdown at the end. The Girl Who Wanted to be God is also pretty catchy with a weird subject matter that also fits squarely into the 90s. The verses sound almost like mid-career XTC.
Wait do I like jazz?
This is such an easy album to listen to. What a debut! Every song is so energetic it almost sounds like a live album instead of the collection of studio recordings. "Miracle Man" is so catchy and could really exist in any time period of modern music. "No Dancing" sounds exactly like it was released 20 years before this album came out. It's timeless. Then "Blame it On Cain" is straight blues rock. Strangely, my least favorite song is Alison but I know everyone loves it.
I really liked this album. I can tell from a few of the reviews that this feeling is not mutual. I thought Burning Wheel and Kowalski were the album's strong points. Star was a strange turn to almost dreamy pop after Kowlaski. Stuka was super cool and felt almost trance-like. Motorhead reminds of Republica's Ready To Go.
