There are some songs I've heard a million times. None of the other songs are terribly interesting to me. "Ultra Violet (Light MY Way)" in particular was a chore. I would be fine to never hear "Love is Blindness" again. "Who's Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses" is okay.
Of the songs I've heard before, I like "Californication" and "Otherside". "Parallel Universe" and "Scar Tissue" are also good. Did not like "Emit Remmus" and "I Like Dirt". "Velvet Glove" is good, probably my favorite of the ones I haven't heard before. "Purple Stain" and "Right on Time" are kinda crazy rock funk, interesting but not something I normally listen to. "Road Trippin'" is a nice way for it to end.
Starts off with one of the best songs on the 90s. The rest is okay, kinda more of the same sound - layered instruments and reverby vocals. “Sonnet” and “The Drugs Don’t Work” are nice slower songs. “Lucky Man” is probably my favorite (besides the first song). Overall not very exciting of an album but has a distinct sound.
It all sounds like Prince, but nothing particularly compelling. I feel like maybe this was big for its time and this is a good snapshot of that 80's sound that was well regarded at the time, but did not have the longevity that Purple Rain has. It's not bad for background music but not something I am going to listen to intently.
It’s a good album to just let play through, and there’s obvious variety from the rotation of vocalists and songwriters. I particularly liked “Sara” and “Angel”. However, it does confirm for me what I’ve often suspected about myself with Fleetwood Mac - I have a hard time getting excited about any of the songs written by Buckingham.
“Born on the Bayou” and “Proud Mary” are some of CCR’s best songs. I didn’t realize how short this album was, which is even more noticeable when skipping “Graveyard Train” and “Keep on Chooglin’” - both are long songs that just meander about and I get bored of them halfway through.
I like “New Feeling” and “First Week/Last Week…Carefree”. “Don’t Worry About the Government” is a little crazy but I’m into it. “Psycho Killer” will get stuck in my head all day. Just a fun album to listen through. It has a unique sound and each song is distinct.
I liked this more than I thought I would. I have heard every song on this, and I think it’s because it’s a lot of good songs. The first three tracks are just good huge rock songs. I started to lose interest after “Rock and Roll Band” and halfway into ”Smokin’” until the organ solo, then I was back in. My main criticism is that it all sounds impersonal - I don’t get a sense of who these people are. Are there 4 members or 12? Everything is just so loud and big. There are two vocalists? They sound the same and there’s always that overly-produced sound to it. And it never really slows down for anything intimate until “Let Me Take You Home Tonight”, and even that gets louder by the end. Besides that, it’s just very good at what they aimed to do.
I would probably enjoy a live show, I can see the crowd adding to the experience- I did not like listening to this album. It was a lot going on, not relaxing at all.
I have no problems with this album. I actually really enjoyed it. My favorite were Bold as Love, One Rainy Wish, and Little Miss Lover. I liked the mix of tempo throughout the album and I think it’s interesting how one song can change so many times. I like that he builds a lot of anticipation in his music.
I never gave this kind of music much of a chance, I listened to the album twice, and I really like it. The music is so interesting and full, without the words it’s written well enough to convey emotions so strongly, and when we add the lyrics back in, it only makes it stronger. I have heard versions of It Had To Be You before, I do love that song and his version was just as beautiful. I enjoyed the second half of the album more than the first. Reflective and wishful music. You Won’t Let Me Go, Tell Me You’ll Wait For Me, I really enjoyed those both. And the songs that came after just continued those same feelings. If you are looking to get into your feelings, this album is very good for that!
It was great background music, it was up beat and had the constant high hat to keep pace. If I sat down and listened to it, you could feel excitement and slow downs into sad reflective moments. Not something I’m incredibly interested in and kind of made my heart feel funny, like it was rushing a bit
