Pretty solid, very The Byrds and chill. Couple of great tracks that felt really well produced with beautiful arrangements.

Never been a big fan besides their hits. Solid album but “white men co-opting blues in the 70’s” isn’t my bag. There are better artists.

Hadn't listened to it in a while, nowhere near as good as their debut. Feels very sparse, forgot how just how "electronic" (in a bad way) it was, and not much soul to it which is weird because they're amazing with a full live band.

It’s fine. Well produced but I’m just not a fan of ballpark boogie and this specific sound from the 80’s.

I grew up with boomer parents who had Sam Cooke on but never revisited. This was a fun listen. Absolute classics.

An undeniable classic, the first half is pure, genre-defining —that neo-soul sound is absolutely timeless. Still, the ten minutes of hidden, preachy skits are kind of unnecessary.

Have heard of Japan but never listened or knew any of their songs, but see where the spooky-post punk/art rock (?) sound comes from. Some great bass playing/sounds on this record, subtle but doing masterful work. Makes it a little funkier and offsets the moodiness of the organs and synths a bit. Definitely hear where Duran Duran got some inspiration from on tracks like Halloween. See the relationship between contemporaries such as Roxy Music and Depeche Mode. Quiet Life, Halloween, Alien all stand out tracks. I appreciate what's going on here.

Awesome post punk pop debut album. Trailblazer band with some classic songs. Fun and well put together.

Pretty good. I do love the more uptempo songs on this album, Back in the USSR being the standout for me.
