Storming grunge opener, reminds me of Vasco Era, Vines, Nirvana. The track Golden Brown is exceptional and added to my heavier playlist. Love the solos. I am knocking off points for too much feedback on Super Unison, not good for headphones! Not sure it will get repeat listens but perhaps next time I want to reach for this genre, it would be here. It's maybe as good as it gets for this genre. A 3 out of 5, only missing a 5 because it wasn't quite consistently high quality right through for me and I wouldn't listen on repeat.
This is a very wholesome, upbeat album that makes you feel and can be put on at any time to reset a mood. It would feel mean to pick any faults with it and I am not sure there are any. I like the worldly, philosophical, nothing in life is either good or bad but lets enjoy it, feel to the whole thing and the clear vocals. The sequencing is great, it starts and finishes upbeat. This probably is a 5 out of 5?
Lyrics: “For Charlie the Archangel sloped into the room, he said I have no opinion about this and I have no opinion about that” We call all learn a lot from Charlie, we don’t need to have an opinion on everything.
This is all the definition of lovely.
3 out of 5 (Maybe a 2.5 in reality if I could), I am very lukewarm to this. I kind of like some of the jangley twanging around but overall it's not my bag. It does not connect for me. I get boring depressed 80's teenager vibes. Maybe I would feel different if it was a record I grew up with, but I can't relate. Personal opinion it doesn't hold up today but at the same time it's pretty inoffensive. Maybe it influenced better music that came from those scenes later, I felt like I heard a bit of the Smiths and maybe even Stone Roses buried in it, so perhaps they were influenced by it, which is a good thing.
Right length and pace for a good gym session!
Crosses over from the hip hop world & doesn't dare
Lots of fun
A four out of five
Yeah this is pretty much a 5 out of 5, it's one of the most iconic of its genre and makes me happy, this was in the background to my youth being played everywhere and I almost forgot how great it is, still stand up as one of the best. In Heaven is a bit repetitive/annoying though.
James Brown is one of the greats but in its genre, this is a decent but potentially disappointing album. While the music is fine, it's not representative in my view of the standard of James Brown to come, who I think got better and better after this. A lot of the 30 minutes of this album are James playing with the crowd and instrumentals rather than showing off his more refined songs and lyrics. It's a great 30 minutes but I would reach for other records by JB and his peers before this. 3 out of 5.
2 stars. I'm sure they've done better than this. Any major dude will tell you this album is boring.
4 out of 5, especially enjoyed the first couple of tracks. Druggy psychedelic moody vibes throughout. Good album,
4!
2. First listen. Lyrics feel basic and uninteresting & production has kept it firmly in the 80's, not connecting and not enjoyable
Kept hoping this improved but between the few good songs it's a slog through wimpy folksy simpering that it's just not my bag. A better shorter album could have been made from this with the bloat removed, but as it is it's a 2 out of 5 from me
Mixed feelings on this one. Season of the Witch is fantastic, but overall I’ve grown out of Donovan and 60s psychedelia. Seeing him live also highlighted the flaws in these songs. It’s not the best of the genre, and I rarely revisit this album. 3 out of 5.
Not really my thing
Prog? No thank you.
To me it's too boring, it's an old black and white film that's pleasant but dull, admittedly didn't finish
Nooo not more Arcade fire, no need for more than one of their albums on this list, snoozefest
Slow goth. Not interesting.
I like Bjork in doses and the music is great but difficult to stay engaged for me
This is ok but doesn't really stand out amongst the load of generic British indie rock albums in this genre so not sure what made it on to this list. Two stars out of five. As another reviewer put it - janglewhine.
