1001 Albums Summary

The mood is really great but I much prefer Loveless. They didn’t build upon that sound at all after all of these years, aside from an upgrade on the clarity in production. Which I’m not sure does it any favors. My favorite tracks were “only tomorrow”, “in another way”, and “wonder 2”. The final track really got me hyped since I have been loving Animal Collective as of late.

The Headmaster Ritual is an insanely good opener. Morrissey’s vocals are so unique, and his writing style is seminal. The instrumentation is ahead of its time, such a beacon for soft rock and college intellectual pop of the 90s. I can think of more iconic singles released on future albums as far as guitar work, but god this is a good album from The Smiths.
