Vibey, good fun times.
Sophomore albums are always an interesting thing to dissect but lets go. Production wise, I really like this. The minimalism early in the album to focus on the actual rapping is great and illustrates Eminem's talent. By the half way point of this album, I had stopped really caring though. It's very dark and crude at points (which is fine) but super sincere at others. That juxtaposition is a little hard to digest sometimes but I understand why it's the way it is. I enjoyed the callbacks to earlier in the album too which is pretty nice and big Leo DiCaprio pointing vibes. Can't say I'll listen to it again but hey. Kill You Contextually, I know nothing. But now I fear that "Shady will fucking kill you". Stan (featuring Dido) One of the first Eminem songs I remember enjoying. The bassline is such a focal point, anchors everything and is a major standout. Lyrically, I think this excels in so many ways. The dangers of parasocial relationships are real, yo. Who Knew The production on this album is fucking tops. The Way I Am Oh man, I like this. "I don't mean to be me but that's what I am." Big struggling with popularity vibez. The Real Slim Shady Iconic. Remember Me? (featuring RBX and Sticky Fingaz) Meh. I’m Back Less meh but still meh Marshall Mathers I like this. Drug Ballad Got bored and skipped Amityville (featuring Bizarre from D12) This is okay Bitch Please II (featuring Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Xzibit, and Nate Dogg) No, bitch. Kim A hard listen but it's very raw and real. Really like the music behind this. Under the Influence (featuring D12) This is fun but I don't care about drugs so yaaaa Criminal Aforementioned drugs do make you a criminal, Slim. Good narrative kind of explaining that lyrics are lyrics and not real things that he's gonna do.
