1001 Albums Summary

What made this album was Sarah Vaughan’s personality. In terms of song selection, it was ok. But her voice is incredible and more than that, she was clearly having so much fun, her joy filtered through so much of her music and that’s what stood out for me. This is record for a dimly lit room, a nice glass of red and a few very close friends.

Fantastic album, save Sixteen, which is unfortunate for several reasons. You can tell that Bowie was a writer in this, a lot of Bowie influences.

This was just so tedious. I’m not a big YES fan to start, but the songs that didn’t make radio play were not a treat, but just the dregs of already not great music.

There are some great songs on this, those are the songs that are more well known. But… most of the others made me feel like I was at a Renaissance Faire.

If They Might Be Giants and Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds had a love child and that child made an album it’d be this album. I hadn’t heard of the Magnetic Fields before, but this is fun and brooding and weird in just the best way.

Meh… It’s fine.

This is such a solidly good album. I haven’t listened to the whole thing in a while. It was nice to re-listen and see how well it still stands up so much later.

I did not like this, it’s got a good bit of electronica mixed in and that’s not my jam. That being said, this mix of indie rock and electronica is clearly well done, I almost liked it. So if that genre is your jam I’d give this a listen. 4 stars for talent, just not for me.
