1001 Albums Summary

I went through a massive Tricky phase and still like his older stuff. This is good, but it doesn’t quite grab me in the same way.

3.5 stars. Not their best, but on the way to it. Probably would have been better as a single album. 1st half: 4 stars; 2nd half: 3 stars

It seemed like it really wanted to sound inspired.

A couple of filler tracks, but solid album overall. Would stick around to hear more of Young’s proto-grunge guitar work.

I think her version of “Little Piece of My Heart” is a top-tier rousing anthem. I knew it must be a standout. This album meets expectations. Enjoyed it, but wouldn’t listen again on my own.

Not even sure why I like this album so much. It's an anomaly. I hear rock, pop, classical, funk. Listening again this go-around, it might be because it's freak folk and chamber pop before those were even a thing. Gifted songwriter and gifted interpreter of songwriting. I know nothing about him outside of this album, except he died young, like his father.
