1001 Albums Summary

Not surprised this is The Birthday Party’s last album, only second in total. Not sure you can even call this experimental. More like Accidental. Like a cat getting trapped in a dish machine in a dirty dark abandoned meat processing plant. Poor recording, the drums sound very random, there’s no driving beat. 1 out of 10.

Another self recreation from the king of pop. Although a bit over produced at times, a lot of great songs. More aggressive sounds while incorporating new digital technology. Drawing from multiple genres, punk, funk, and rock. Overall great album. My favorite song is Leave Me Alone.

Will listen again. For current hip hop, this album is above most. Music and backing tracks are minimalistic, lyrics are interesting.

Great album. Typical genius.

An amazing piece of work from Beck. Less upbeat and dancey than most of Becks albums…this is a “going through it” record. And he takes you along with him. A focus on lyrics and song writing, really shows some deeper talent. Guess I’m Doing Fine and Lost Cause are stand alone tracks for me. Sad sounding at their surface, but very healing when you listen deeper.

This album shows there’s more than what you think you know about Cindi Lauper. Much more than just “Girls Just Want To Have Fun. Several songs have a bit of a nasty Punk and New Wave tinge. “Witness” is my favorite track which has a surprising reggae vibe.

Very strong vocals. Brings some talent back to pop music. Some very strong song writing by other artists.
