1001 Albums Summary

So raw- vocally, lyrically, you can hear her soul! It’s very autobiographical lyric-wise, a snapshot into her life and the world she lived in. It hurts knowing that not much has changed politically since this album was released. It was a hard album to get through for me but the last few songs really drew me back in. Gorgeous piece of work, a classic.

Lovely vocal jazz project! Beautifully sung and the musical arrangements just as gorgeous. Ella is a generational talent! Surely this project was not meant to listen all in one sitting- 3 hours and 5 disks is quite overwhelming for the average listener today. As a piece that archives the Gershwin's collection well, I loved. As an album obviously it doesn't work... and if it was meant to be consumed as such, there would have been choices to leave out most of these tracks. BUT I loved most of the tracks, but the tracks dwindle in strength by the last two disks.
